Set beside the water, many parts of the city have fantastic views of the Coral Sea, you can walk along the famous Cairns Esplanade and see the boats coming ang going to the reef.

The Cairns International Airport is one of the busiest in the country, and very close to the city centre. If you're after a connection to the reef, the rainforest or attractions even further afield, Cairns city is the obvious starting place. With the Reef Casino, Convention Centre and the new swimming lagoon on the waterfront, Cairns has everything you could ever desire in a holiday city.

The shopping is also a drawcard. Not only is there Cairns Central, the main shopping centre, the city is full of unique boutiques and shops to browse, and you mustn't miss a trip to Rusty's Markets - a local institution and the place to find fresh, exotic local produce.
